History
The name ZETOR came by merging the popular 'Zet', from the logo of the Zbrojovka Brno arms factory where the first tractor Z 25 was released in 1945, and the last two letters of the word tractor - 'or'.
Successful launch of serial production of the Z 25 tractor started in 1946. After the successful launch of serial production of the Z 25 tractor in 1946, Zbrojovka Brno transferred the manufacturing process to the production premises of the state enterprise 'Závody přesného strojírenství Brno-Líšeň' (The Brno Líšeň Precision Engineering Works) in 1952. Although the company has undergone a number of changes including the adoption of the new name Zetor a.s. it has been manufacturing tractors until today in continuously updated releases.
Having concentrated tractor manufacture at the Brno - Líšeň site, in the mid-1950s the company commenced the production of more efficient machines that later carried the designations ZETOR 35 Super and ZETOR 50 Super. The ZETOR 25 tractor was continuously manufactured until 1961 when this very popular tractor was definitively abandoned. It was replaced by the new unified range of ZETOR tractors designated UR I, gradually released for production from 1960 onwards. Early Zetor models used efficient four stroke diesel engines with mechanical fuel injection. They were considered very advanced, and proved quite durable. This, combined with attractive price, made them popular in many areas of the world.Especially innovative is the Zetor hydraulics system, 'Zetormatic', which uses a hydraulic cylinder to transfer most of the weight of towed implements, such as plows, to the rear axle of the tractor at the hitch.
By commencing serial production of the core UR I types: ZETOR 2011, 3011 and 4011, the company marked a major breakthrough in ZETOR´s tractor manufacturing history. The tractors featured, in particular, a high level of standardisation between different assembly groups, which yielded significant cost benefits for the manufacturer and increased user comfort as a result of the wider application of spare parts. The same approach was adopted with all the subsequent updates of the ZETOR UR I range and its different models as well as for the higher output ranges given the designation Zetor UR II and UR III.
The ZETOR UR I range began serial production in late 1968 with the first model known as the „ZETOR 8011 Crystal“. Differing from the UR I both in output and design, the range was gradually enriched with additional models and their updates designated ZETOR 8045, 10011, 10045, 12011 and 12045. In 1981 the manufacture of the ZETOR UR II, including spare parts distribution, was transferred to ZTS Martin, Slovakia. In 1991 ZETOR added another updated range to its manufacturing programme under the designation UR III. The range consists of tractors with an output of 70 to 105 HP given the designations 7520/40, 8520/40, 9520/40 and 10520/40.
Two years later the company presented a new update of the UR I range under the designation 'Model 92,' - also known as the ZETOR Major. This comprises the ZETOR 3320/40, 4320/40, 5320/40, 6320/40 and 7320/40 in turbo design. Although 'Model 92' is still manufactured, from 1997 on it has been gradually replaced by the new UR I range tractors known as Model 97 or the ZETOR Super under the designations 3321/41, 4321/41, 5321/41, 6321/41 and 7321/41.
In the past year a new range was added to the ZETOR tractor family named Forterra, which is an updated UR III range with four-cylinder engines and type designations ZETOR 8621/41, 9621/41, 10621/41 and a six-cylinder engine designated ZETOR 11641. The six-cylinder Forterra 11641 with an output of over 120 HP is the most efficient type so far produced by ZETOR.
Zetor starts the new period of the history behind the year 2000. In the year 2002 entry in to the company the private shareholders HTC holding from the Slovak republic.
Nowadays sells Zetor the tractors in 43 countries on 5 continents. Since the year 1946 sells the Zetor Group more than 1,1 billion of tractors.
Zetor tractors are produced by a processes classified according to ISO 9001 system. The tractor’s parameters are certified according to: EEC stage II or III and EPA.
All Zetor clients very well know the Zetor ' s strengths - long and successful history, very high Czech quality, unique diesel engine, low operating cost and excellent design.
